Michael Jordan Biography

Michael Jeffery Jordan
Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born on 17th February 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. When he was a kid, his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. In Wilmington, North Carolina only, he saw the celebrated years of his life as a basketball player. Jordan has five siblings, two older brothers and an older and younger sister. His father was employed in an electric plant and mother worked full-time at a bank. As a kid, Jordan was fond of playing baseball, basketball and football. But baseball topped his priority list. After spending a quality time on the basketball court, his attitude and preference changed. He became adamant to become a basketball player. His propensity towards the sport also changed because of his elder brother, Larry who kept on defeating him when they played one-on-one.

In 1978, Jordan attended Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. There he was not allowed to play in the high school team due to his inadequate size. But this didn’t deter him to play basketball. He fought against his misfortune and became one of the distinguished basketball player in the World. In the 10th and 11th grade, he grew from 5’11” to 6’3”.  He also refined his playing skills and finally made it to the high school team. There as a junior, he played very well and delivered outstanding scores. Before moving onto his senior year, he attended the Five-Star Camp in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. By the time, Jordan finished his senior year at Laney High School; he had become 6’5”. He also achieved the basketball scholarship from the University of North Carolina. In the NCAA championship game where he made a last minute game-winning shot. This was the onset of his glorious career. In 1984, Jordan played under head coach Bobby Knight in the US Men's Olympic Basketball Team in association with Patrick Ewing and Chris Mullin. His spontaneity on the field left everybody startled. Jordan played his first regular-season game with the Chicago Bulls two months after the Olympics.

Jordan instantaneously proved that he was made for the big leagues. His athletic skills, won him the name “Air Jordan.” His influential status also made him the commercial star of both Nike products and the NBA. Jordan led the Bulls to three back-to-back World Championships in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Prior to the 1993-94 season Jordan declared his withdrawal from the NBA. At that time he was also accused of gambling addictions. Jordan also tried his hands at professional baseball. He played as an outfielder for the associates of Chicago White Sox, Birmingham Barons.

After posting not so good records in the pro baseball, he re-signed the Bulls. In 1996, he led the Bulls to their best regular season record and the fourth Championship title in six years. In 1999, after winning his last Championship in the Bulls uniform, he decided to retire. Jordan made a comeback to the NBA by signing Washington Wizards in 2001 as a Shooting Guard. Jordan is married to Juanita. The couple has three children, Jeffrey, Marcus and Jasmine
